Tourist Tariff to Bhutan

All the tourism activities in Bhutan is controlled and strictly regulated by Tourism Council of Bhutan. Bhutan government has limited the number of visitors to preserve and nurture the traditional culture. The Bhutanese are highly religious people and therefore it is important to show respect and understanding for local customs and way of life, especially while visiting places of religious significance. The tourism industry in Bhutan is founded on the principle of sustainability which means that tourism must be environmentally and eco-logically friendly, socially and culturally acceptable and economically viable. For these reason tourism is carefully monitored and the numbers of tourist visiting Bhutan is kept to an environmentally manageable level.

International Tourist Tariff is set by the Royal Government of Bhutan and is valid for all-inclusive packages. The tariffs for tourists visiting in a group of three or more are as follows. These must be paid in US dollars prior to arrival in Bhutan.

USD $200 per person per night for the months of January, February, June, July, August, and December.

USD $250 per person per night for the months of March, April, May, September, October, and November.

Please note that these rates are applicable per tourist per night halt in Bhutan.

The minimum daily package covers the following services.

  • A minimum of 3 star accommodation (4 & 5 star may require an additional premium).
  • All meals. Breakfasts, Lunches & Dinners.
  • A licensed Bhutanese tour guide for the extent of your stay
  • All internal transport (excluding internal flights)
  • Services of accompanied guide
  • Fees to museums and  monuments
  • Camping equipment and haulage for trekking tours
  • All internal taxes and charges
  • A sustainable tourism Royalty of $65. This Royalty goes towards free education, free healthcare, poverty alleviation, along with the building of infrastructure.

Not included in your tariff:-

  •     Your travel insurance which we recommend is a must.
  •     Your personal medical care
  •     Tips to local guide and staff attending you if you are happy with their services.
  •     Emergency evacuation, if required during your trip
  •     International Airfare
  •     Your alcohol / beverage drinks

On the day of departure, the ‘local agents’ host obligation shall be limited to providing breakfast only and any extra requirements shall be payable on usage basis.

To book any tour and trekking holidays in Bhutan is recommended to be done 5-6 weeks in advance. If you are looking for cultural tours during festivals, it is recommended to book 7-8 weeks in advance. It is same for the flight as well.
