Traveling with children in Nepal

Travelling with children is remarkably stress-free in Nepal. Number of visitors coming with children is increasing every year. Many people participate in different cultural, religious and historical tours accompanying short trekking and easy hiking. Please read the following helpful tips before setting off your journey  with children.

  • Most of the hotels in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Lumbini have roof top garden, which can be good play areas but might not be safe for young children.
  • Walking the crowded, narrow and pavement-less streets of Kathmandu and other towns can be a hassle with young kids unless you can get them up off the ground – a backpack or sling is ideal. A pusher or stroller is more trouble than it’s worth unless you bring one with oversized wheels, suitable for rough pavements.
  • Disposable nappies are available in Kathmandu & Pokhara but nappy-changing facilities and high chairs are a rarity.
  • Trekking in lower altitude is possible with children. We can arrange a separate porter to carry children in doko a traditional Nepali basket if needed.
