Mt. Everest is the world’s tallest mountain peak located in the Solukhumbu district of Nepal also known as Khumbu region within Mahalangur Range. The peak is 8848 meters (29029 ft.) above the sea level and runs across the international border of China (Tibet Autonomous Region) and Nepal. Other most popular peaks nearby are Lhotse, 8,516 m (27,940 ft), Nuptse, 7,855 m (25,771 ft), and Changtse, 7,580 m (24,870 ft) and many of the highest mountains in the world are near Mount Everest. Most of the people start the journey from Lukla (2840M / 9317 ft) where as few like to follow the classical route starting from Jiri (1,905 m / 6,250 ft.). Few days trekking from jiri take you to Lukla where you can join the normal trekking route to Everest Base Camp passing the Sherpa villages at Phakding, Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche, Pheriche, Lobuche and Gorakhshep. The distance between Lukla to everest base camp is about 62 km / 38.58 miles. People complete the trek of Everest Base Camp in between 10 to 15 days but the marathons runners has made the record of completing the distance from Namche to Everest Base Camp within 1 hour and 53 minute. The total days to spend on Everest Base Camp trekking depend on your walking pace and physical fitness. Besides Everest Base Camp, you can visit Gokyo Valley, Gokyo Lake, High Passes and more Sherpa villages if you extend few days on your trip. The beautiful guesthouses in the villages offer neat and clean room with all varieties of food if you are doing teahouse trekking. Tented camp trekking is more fun if you like to travel with big group.
